Important information - General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)

On 25 May 2018 the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) will replace the UK Data Protection Act 1998 (DPA). To support that aim we are GDPR compliant ahead of the deadline.

What does GDPR mean for me and the West Brom?

Whilst there are changes to the way that you submit business, the good news is that we have reduced the changes to our process helping to make the change as seamless as possible.

Some of the changes you will see are:

  • You currently provide your applicant(s) with our standard declaration and in line with this process an additional information box has been added to our mortgage Decision In Principle (DIP) screen. This will provide a useful prompt for you to provide the applicants(s) with a copy of, or link to the West Brom’s Privacy Notice.
  • Our view is that the applicant should be made aware of our Privacy Notice when their data is shared with us and therefore you will be responsible for providing a copy of, or link to our Privacy Notice.
  • Provision of Third Party Privacy Notice - In addition to our standard Privacy Notice our Third Party Privacy Notice should also be provided to the applicant(s) where an ‘other occupier’ resides in the property over the age of 17 and not party to the mortgage. You will be responsible to provide a copy of, or link to our Third Party Privacy Notice and the applicant(s) will be responsible to share the information with the relevant parties.
This information is captured at FMA rather than DIP stage and a helpful email prompt will be sent to advisers at FMA submission to remind them of this requirement. The Third Party Privacy Notice can be found in the forms library or via www.westbrom.co.uk/wbbsthirdpartyprivacynotice
  • Data Protection, Credit Scoring and Fraud Prevention declaration – this has been updated to reflect the changes of GDPR.
  • Marketing Consent – we have changed the way we capture Marketing Consent meaning applicant(s) must now opt in to receive marketing from us.

For more details on these changes and how they impact you please read our GDPR Guide.
