West Brom Building Society hosts weekly Talkin’ Table to help combat loneliness in Tipton
West Brom Building Society has joined forces with community initiative Talkin’ Tables to help bring people together to combat loneliness and isolation in Tipton.
The initiative, which is active in towns and cities across the country, partners with local businesses to host weekly one-hour “Talkin’ Tables” where anyone can drop by for a chat and connect with others. Each table is led by a volunteer who welcomes visitors and helps start conversations in a relaxed, friendly environment.
The Talkin’ Table at the West Brom’s Tipton branch officially opened on Friday 7 November with the Mayor of Sandwell and Local Councillor Steve Melia (Great Barr with Yew Tree Ward), and Local Councillor Richard Jeffcoat (Tipton Green Ward) attending a celebratory event alongside branch colleagues and members of the local community.
Talkin’ Table sessions will take place every Friday at the Tipton branch of West Brom Building Society in its recently launched community space. The community room is free to use and can be booked by local clubs, societies, and individuals for events, meetings, and gatherings.
Harriet Yates, Branch Manager at the West Brom’s Tipton branch, said: “We’re delighted to welcome Talkin’ Tables into our community space. It’s a fantastic initiative that encourages connection and companionship, and we’re proud to support something that makes such a positive difference in people’s lives.
“Our community space was designed to bring local people together, whether that’s through coffee mornings, baby groups, or initiatives like Talkin’ Tables and this partnership is a perfect example of how we can use it to strengthen community spirit right here in Tipton.”
The Talkin’ Tables sessions will be hosted by volunteer Diana Thomas Smout, who will act as table leader each week.
Diana said: “Sometimes, all it takes is a friendly conversation to brighten someone’s day. I’m really looking forward to welcoming people along to the Talkin’ Table at the West Brom and helping to create a space where everyone feels seen, heard and included.”
Talkin’ Tables sessions will take place every Friday at 10:30am – 11:30am at the West Brom’s Tipton branch community space.
