Authorised Push Payment (APP) Fraud

What is APP fraud?

APP fraud is when you’re tricked into sending money to someone who isn’t who they say they are. They often pretend to be a family member or your bank/building society and tell you the payment needs to be made quickly, to try and panic you into paying. You could be contacted by telephone, text message, by email or through social media.

Following new rules introduced by the Payment Systems Regulator on 7 October 2024, if you've been a victim of APP fraud, you can claim the money back you've lost.
